How to Connect More with God

Sometimes we get so caught up on how much we want to be and feel loved that we forget who else wants our love... God 💖

Below is a snippet from my morning Bible reading and journal session:

Hosea 4:6 - “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…”

Hosea 4:14 - “… People without discernment are doomed.”

Hosea 6:6 - "For I desire faithful love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings."

I paused to see what God wanted my takeaway to be from these verses that stood out to me.

Here’s what I received:

God wants us to be faithful and consistently intimate with Him. He wants us to go beyond surface knowledge, common knowledge. He wants to provide discernment. Be faithful to God by getting to know His desires and His heart for you. When you do this, you will learn valuable things and receive discernment on how to move forward in life, relationships, career... everything.

Spend more time with the Lord. More time in His presence. He misses you and wants to share things with you. He wants to do LIFE with you.

How to connect more with God?

1. Prayer

2. Bible Reading

3. Worship and Praise

4. Pay it Forward

5. Sabbath

Practical Ways to Connect More with God:

  • Prayer - Throughout the day as you’re doing things, communicate with Him, talk to Him as if you can physically see Him or as if you’re on a phone call or FaceTime. Designate actual “prayer dates”. Set aside the time and place to link-up with God.

  • Bible Reading - Read the Word of God. These are love letters to you. They are filled with loads of information, education and edifying. What is edifying? Edify - instruct or improve someone morally or intellectually [Oxford Language]. The Bible holds hidden messages that are revealed when you ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand what you’re reading. Ask for help to comprehend mentally, physically, and spiritually. Take notes. What speaks to your heart? You can even Google search names, definitions, places for more clarity.

  • Worship and Praise - Play or sing worship music and songs. Consider the lyrics. What do they mean to you? Enjoy praise music that brings glory to God, not just focused on your struggles, but thanking God for who He is and what He’s done. Imagine showering God with words of affirmation.

  • Pay it Forward - Ask God to show you how to be a blessing, an answered prayer, an “angel” to someone else. Collaborate with Him on giving back with the gifts, blessings, resources and time He has given you. How can you be of service - God’s hands and feet extended to those in need.

  • Sabbath - Make time to just be. Rest from the hustle and bustle. A quiet mind makes room to hear from the Lord. This is God’s opportunity to refresh your spirit, mind and body. Running on empty, even if it’s “for the Lord” is not healthy or His desire for you. You are to be a good steward not just of your money and blessings, but of your time and body. Take time to just be.

My prayer:

Thank you, Lord, for speaking and sharing your heart with me, for me, and others. Help me to be more aware of the ways I can connect with you and deepen our relationship. I love You, I trust You and honor You. In Jesus's name, Amen.
